astrology is considered a divine science in india and is part of vedanga. ideally, the vedic astrology should be learn from a guru and not from self study via books. if you are really interested in learning vedic astrology, then i would suggest you to find a good astrologer. because from books, it is not easy to learn astrology.ย in vedic astrology books, you will find lot of contradictions on some points and will get confused.
one of the best institute to learn vedic astrology is from bharatiya vidya bhavan in delhi. this is the largest and most reputed vedic astrology school run by renowned astrologer sh k.n.rao and his students. 2nd best option will be ICAS founded by another very well know astrologer late b.v.raman.
if you want to get basic understanding of astrology then you can get it via books. but to get sound predictive skills, practice under guru will be quite helpful. after going through more than 50 astrology books, i am selecting 5 books for beginners in astrology.
vedic astrology books for beginners:
1. how to judge a horoscope vol1 and vol2 by b.v.raman
b.v.raman is known for reviving astrology in india in the last century and is one of the most well known astrologer and he gave many successful prediction during world war 2.
2. predictive astrology of the hindus by pandit gopesh kumar ojha
another very well known astrologer
3. learn, think and predict through astrology by c.p. arora
he has written only one book on astrology but very good for beginner.
note: buy one of these two set of books (1 + 2 options or 1 + 3 options). because b.v. raman book has given more importance on analyzing horoscope and basic rules of astrology are not given in detail. whereas in pandit gopesh kumar ojha and c.p.arora book, the astrology basics and sutras are covered extensively but horoscopes are not analyzed.
and as a astrologer you need to know:
1. the rules of astrology (shared in book 2 and book 3 mentioned above)
2. how to analyze horoscope using the astrology rules (book 1 mentioned above)
so buy either set (book 1 + book 2 or book 1 + book 3)
other recommended astrology books – after you go through the above books at least twice then read
1. j.n, bhasin books “art of prediction” and “astro sutras”. this will help in sharpening your predictive skills.
2. books of Lt. Col. Raj Kumar like charisma of trikone houses, charisma of kendra houses and his other books.
3. varga by goel
4. transits by col. a.k. gaur
for advance astrology students:
1.ย read all the books of k.n.rao and his students.
2. along with parashari method, also learn jaimini astrology from k.n.rao books. use only 7 chara karaka system in jaimini astrology.
3. learn at least 3 dasha to verify the events. along with vimsottari dasha, learn sh k.n. rao chara dasha and another dasha like yogini dasha.
4. use only lahiri ayanamsa.
