Can we wear rudraksha while sleeping | wearing rudraksha beads

Can we wear rudraksha while sleeping | wearing rudraksha beads

rudraksha  are charged beads used for spiritual purposes. it is believed that they are originated from lord shiva tears. nowadays many astrologers and TV channels give lot of importance to wearing rudraksha for solving your life problems.

one of the common question asked about rudraksha is that can i wear rudraksha while sleeping? there is a minor debate over this issue and many people recommend that don’t wear rudraksha while sleeping. but some people also say that you can wear rudraksha while sleeping. i personally support the theory that one should not wear rudraksha while sleeping. i don’t deny the fact that my opinion could be wrong. so follow what you feel is right.

why you should not wear rudraksha while sleeping:

1. the rudraksha should not be worn while doing any inauspicious work. in day time you have some control over your actions. you can stop yourself from committing any negative karma. but while sleeping the unconscious mind takes over and whatever is repressed during day time gets surfaced in your dream. these suppressed negative emotions could be revenge, lust, greed or jealousy. all these negativity in dreams affects the rudraksha and can make it impure.

2. many times, sexual dreams comes in night which is not good for rudraksha energy. even during love making (inter course) you should remove the rudraksha and keep it in a holy place or in your house temple.

3. the sharp beads of rudraksha can injure your skin. at the same time, your body weight can also injure the sharp points in rudraksha.

4. negative energy:
a) so its not a question of sleeping time only. whenever you are visiting a cemetery or cremation then also you should remove the rudraksha at home. when you come back home then take a good head shower bath. because our aura is more dense around head region and below abdomen. you can also add some sea salt to the water. after the bath, chant the mantra to charge the rudraksha and then wear it.
b) avoid eating non-vegetarian food and drinking alcohol. if you can not resist then remove the rudraksha for one day when you are drunk or have eaten non-vegetarian food. next day do lot of mantra chanting and then wear the rudraksha after taking bath.

5. i feel, if you have gone beyond sexuality and become perfect celibate (brahmachari) then only you can wear rudraksha while sleeping.

if you are on the spiritual path and wearing any energized spiritual item like rudraksha or doing any sort of spiritual practice like mantra chanting… then always be careful about your thoughts, feelings and actions. be positive. don’t curse any body. share love and compassion with all living beings.

avoid eating non-vegetarian food, drinking alcohol and abstain from harming anybody verbally, mentally or physically. its because since you are doing spiritual sadhana, your thoughts have more power than the thoughts of a normal person. so if you think negatively about someone then you are harming other person as well as yourself big time.

in spirituality, first thing is to clean your heart from malice. so that once you start getting powers, you don’t misuse them or try to harm anybody using the powers.

so i suggest, don’t wear rudraksha during night time, when you are totally unconscious and when you don’t know what will come out from your unconscious mind in your dreams.

when you wear rudraksha in morning then first take the bath and chant the mantra 11 times or 108 times. every rudraksha  has different mantra depending upon the number of its faces.

    Hello Admin,

I came across this article while searching information on Rudraksha mala. I liked the article, though i know its difficult for me to follow all of what is mentioned in the article. I had some doubt about the Radraksha mala and i thought you could help me with some clarification on the same.

I bought one 5 mukhi Rudraksha mala some time in the year 2007, I might have bought it from an exhibition and i wore it for may be 6 to 9 months time. For no reason i stopped wearing the same towards the end of 2007. I still have this mala and i come across the same once in a while. I always think i should start wearing this mala again but i am not sure if i can wear this one now or not, the same has become dirty and how to clean the same, does it need to be re-energised. My wife keep telling me that i should not wear this as i am a non vegetarian.

Some guidance from your side on this would be helpful, though i see you covered some of it in the article.

    Regards, Amit

amit, i am not an expert on rudraksh. but i agree with your wife. since you are eating non-vegetarian food then you should avoid wearing rudraksh. this is because to give due respect to the satvic energies of the rudraksh which is also a ansh (tears) of lord shiva. otherwise, if you stop eating non-veg food then i think you can clean the mala using sandalwood oil and keep it in your temple for some hours or a day. then chant mantras of 5 mukhi rudraksh and wear it on the auspicious day.

my feeling is you should wear rudraksh but leave the non-veg food. check in google for a detailed article on how to clean and recharge the mala. som month is coming so its a good time to visit shiva temples wearing the rudraksh.

another suggestion is to stop eating non-veg food for one month. recharge the rudraksh after following proper ritual and then see how it affects you mentally and emotionally. since you are thinking of wearing rudraksh for some time then why not try wearing it for one month at least.

There are no rules regarding meat eating while wearing Rudraksha in Shiva Mahapuran.

      the famous verse is :
” A devotee of Siva shall refrain from eating meat,
garlic, onion, red garlic, potherb, Slesmataka, pig of rubbish
      and liquors. ”

I was wearing my Rudraksha while eating meat, and slowly I began to not want it. And so I have stopped. I suggest you recharge your mala and begin wearing it.

If you want to know more, click the below link. It is the Shiva Mahapurana, open up the find function in your web browser and type Rudraksa. There you will find all the references regarding the Rudraksha.

A lot of people say a lot of things and give rules, apart from the Rudraksha mantras I haven’t found any other rule… This is your source don’t listen to anyone, even me… Check the Source yourself.

( There are quite a few spelling errora, especially with the mantras)

Thanks Sonny for sharing this info. But when you mention “A devotee of Siva shall refrain from eating meat” then its implied that one should not eat meat while wearing rudraksha.
