any thing which makes you identified with your thoughts, ideas or ideology is not good for your spiritual growth. because it makes you more convinced that you and your thoughts are only right and others are wrong.
what happens in facebook or twitter is that you start liking the posts which supports your ideas. you make friends who think on similar line. so you get more and more identified with your ideas. identification leads to misery and is the root cause of the cycle of life and birth. as long as you are identified with any thought or idea or with your body or with your possessions, you are going to be reborn.
all thoughts are based upon your conditioning. it depends upon how you are brought up? like in which culture, religion, society and what type of education you have got. when you are born then you are a blank slate with no ideas or thoughts of your own. but slowly the society conditioned you and teaches you what is right and what is wrong. thus you start judging things and people.
in reality, no thought belongs to you. in deep meditation when you are totally still then there are no-thoughts inside you. you are totally empty from within yet full of bliss and silence. so you cannot call any thought as yours. thoughts are like visitors who enters your mind and leave after sometime unless you feed them by getting identified with thoughts.
as a seeker you have to go beyond your mind and its conditioning. you don’t have to identify with ideas as this is my idea or this is my thought. instead you need to witness the thoughts and you will come to know that no thoughts belong to the soul. soul just watches everything as a passive witness. your mind creates and nourishes all these so called ideas and thoughts. you are not the body, nor the mind but the silent witness of everything happening around you.
if you want to surf internet then there is nothing wrong in it. but don’t get identified. stay detached. remember, too much of social media is not good for your mental and psychic well being. as it put lot of unnecessary information in your head. it adds confusion to your mind. your mind needs to relax and slow down and social media does the very opposite. so cut down your time on social media sites and cinema as much as possible.
