i wonder how come you are reading this article
as most people wants to avoid this very topic of death.
there must be some spark inside you to know the truth about death and dying.
personally, i was always fascinated with the topic of death and what happens when you die.
death is such a mysterious journey on which everyone has to go one day.
so why not be little bit acquainted with it and prepare for it.
as per the tradition or sanatan dharma, if you die during a pilgrimage then it is considered very auspicious. many good things are said about the death of a person who dies while doing a tirth yatra. few such positives sayings are:
1. the person next life will be very good.
2. he died a rare and blessed death.
3. he will go to the heaven or to the abode of his god.
4. he will be received by good souls or the deity he used to worship.
5. it is his good karma that he received such a pious death.
all this looks good but who has seen the world of death. dead people never come back to tell their story. so how to judge what will happen to you once you die. lets find out.
is death during pilgrimage really auspicious:
1. first of all, if you want to know truth then be neutral and don’t make any judgement about death. don’t be scared of death. instead be scared of living a dishonest and corrupt life. if you have lived well then your death will also be well. death is a continuity of life and it is not a separate incident. remember, how you have lived life will determine your death. and how you die will determine your next birth. so it’s a circle.
2. secondly, what happens in the moment of death is very important. can you guess what you will be remembering at the moment of your death?
it will be something which is the center of your life. it could be sex, money, family, fame, knowledge, power or something else. there is one basic quality around which your whole life revolves. e.g. for a politician it will be power, for a businessmen it will be money, for a mother it will be her children. so whatever was the center of your life that very thing you will be remembering at the moment of your death. this is quite logical because through out your life you have focused on one thing. so now at the critical moment of death you can not do anything else than what you have practiced in your entire life.
so for a truly religious person, he will be remembering god at the moment of his death. i am sure about such a person that his life after death will be good.
3. you know these days doing pilgrimage is not a big deal. you can travel via train, plane or chopper. get special darshan pass for few hundred rupees and get a quick darshan of the deity and fly back to your city the next day. whats the big deal about it? i have seen people going for pilgrimage who are lost in their mundane things during the travel. even when they are standing in queue they are gossiping. only time they remember god is they enter inside the temple hall. that time they will push everyone aside to spend maximum time in front of the deity. why not remember god from the moment you have started your pilgrimage?. think about it.
now compare about the situation of doing pilgrimage 100-200 years back. there were no many facilities for travelling. at that time you were not even sure that you will come alive. so there used to be a certain intensity and faith in devotees for their god. they have to cross the jungles infested with bandits and wild animal. so who gave them power to undertake such difficult and dangerous journeys? it was their intense and total faith in god. if you have such a total and intense faith and you are remembering god all the time while on the pilgrimage then don’t worry about death. because your death will be auspicious.
otherwise also, dying during pilgrimage is much better than dying in the hustle and bustle of city life or dying in a hospital or similar situations. because when you go for pilgrimage then you always focus a part of your energy towards the deity. this energetic shift in your energy elevates the quality of dying. so it always helps to go for pilgrimage or to visit temple often.
your death will be auspicious under this condition:
you have lived a honest and religious life. you have not cheated or harassed people. so all this religious conduct done through out the life will create a crystallized force in you. it will make sure that no bad thought comes to your mind at the moment of death. and you will remember your god at the moment of death. so living a religious life is like preparing yourself to face death gracefully.
whenever possible do your sadhana. take the name of god. see god in every living being or treat them as creation of almighty and be nice with them. because you don’t know which moment can be your last moment in life. live it as if today is the last day of your life.
one last thing what will happen if die in sleep?
don’t worry as how you have lived your day will determine the quality of your sleep. just as how you have lived life decide, how you will die. so live religiously and joyfully in your day time and your sleep will have the same under current of day to day activities. if you remember god in day time then your dreams will also be about god.
