
diwali or deepavali is the festival of lights. deepavali means “a row of lights”. it is one of the most important hindu festival and is celebrated all over india.
diwali is celebrated to mark the arrival of lord rama (incarnation of lord vishnu) and ma sita (incarnation of goddess lakshmi) back to their home town after an exile period of 14 years.
life of lord rama, ma sita, bharat, laxman and lord hanuman is inspirational to all of us. we can learn many things from them. like complete devotion to master from lord hanuman, living a life of dharma from lord rama, true love for husband from ma sita and love for elder brother from bharat and laxman. here are few teachings which we can learn from diwali.

1. remove darkness to bring light in our life.
on this day, people light diyas and lamps to remove darkness of the night but we forget to remove the darkness of our soul. the real message of diwali is to dispel the inner darkness which has engulfed us for thousands of life times. we need to bring wisdom to dispel inner darkness and we need to bring consciousness to remove unconsciousness from our life. let the light of wisdom remove the inner darkness not only from us but also from this planet.
2. remove negativity to bring positivity in our life.
on this day, we clean our home to welcome the goddess laxmi in our home. but we forget to clean our heart from negativity so that god can resides in our heart. so resolve to let go of bad habits, negative thoughts and wrong friends. be more loving and less egoistic is the way to invite god in our life.
3. have patience
every ordeal comes to an end. no matter how long is the wait. time changes and nothing last forever. so if you are on the right path then keep on moving without worrying about the length of journey. one day it will come to an end and you will be remembered for your patience and good deeds. we should take inspiration from bhagwan rama not only for his patience but also for living a life of dharma and virtue.
4. share to bring joy in everyone life
on this day, people buy sweets and share them with their friends, relatives and neighbors. this add lot of joy and festivity in the air. its a lesson for us to share whatever good or extra we have with the less privileged people. in the inner world, whatever we share increases and whatever we hoard decreases with time. so this diwali, buy some gifts for poor people or for people who are working under you to make their diwali also special and full of sweetness.
5. make a new beginning in life
on diwali, we buy new clothes and utensils. many shopkeeper start their new account or balance sheet. lets resolve on this day to live a loving, peaceful and spiritual life. its never too late to start afresh and make a new beginning. after all, today is the first day of rest of your life. so on this diwali, have a determined resolution to begin something positive in your life.
on this diwali, pray to lord rama and ma sita to guide you for living a life of dharma and virtue. pray to lord hanuman for giving you the strength to stick to dharma despite any difficulty and odds.
